Who We Are

Steve Distler - Owner/Partner
Born in Queens, New York, Steve grew up in 2 different cultures. Both of his parents were born deaf and he was taught sign language as his first language.  After graduating college, he had dreams of being a stockbroker.  But a different path was bestowed upon him when he went back to school and earned his masters degree in Education.  It was during this time when a friend turned him on to food and wine. After landing a job teaching at The American Sign Language and English Secondary School, he left and took a full time job at Italian Wine Merchant in the Union Square neighborhood of New York City.  In 2007, he moved to Napa, California to pursue his dream of opening a wine bar and in 2010, his dream was realized when he opened one in downtown Napa.  After leaving the restaurant business, he went back to the wine industry and was hired as the General Manager at O’Brien Estate.  In 2015, Steve pursued his other dream of having his own wine label.  He partnered with longtime friend, Luis Pettinato, to produce a 150 case production of Cabernet Franc by Arnyca Cellars.  In conjunction, he founded Wine Language LLC, a company that encompasses various aspects of the wine industry. He likes to travel and currently lives in Napa, California.        
 

Luis Pettinato - Owner/Partner
A native of Argentina, Luis began his career in the culinary arts at Le Cordon Blue, Buenos Aires. For 15 years Luis continued in kitchen management within prestigious restaurants in Los Angeles and Napa, California. Ten years ago, Luis decided to transition out of the culinary arts and pursue his passion for wine. After a decade of immersion in the wine industry, he partnered with Steve in a shared dream to create their own wine. 
 

Mark Davis - Winemaker
After several vintages across northern California as well as in Australia and South Africa, Mark was given the opportunity to start his own label and in 2012 Cobden Wini Wines was born.  As well as handling every aspect for the Cobden Wini label, Mark is also the winemaker at O’Brien Estate Winery in Napa. There he works alongside consulting winemaker, David Yorgensen, helping to produce stellar wines under the O’Brien label. Mark continues to learn everyday and strives to make the best wines possible.
